Growth Trajectory
- 2011: 7,200
- 2012: 14,851
- 2017: 70,131
- 2018: 80,000
- 2019: 88,000
- 2020: 100,000+
Top certification countries: UK (#1 since 2009), USA, India, Netherlands, Australia
Since I have been registered since November 2011, I am among the first ~7,000 globally, well within the first 10% of all TOGAF architects ever certified.
100,000+ TOGAF registered Architects, out of ~27 million IT professionals globally = ~0.4%
Reality Check
Not an exclusive club, because:
- Training widely available (70+ accredited providers)
- Anyone can take the exams
- Growing 10,000+ per year
- Relatively accessible certification
Selective club, because:
- Requires enterprise architecture experience to get certified
- Investment in time/money (training + exams)
- Most developers/IT pros never achieve it
- The enterprise architect role itself is senior/specialised
Conclusion
I have been registered since 2011. That puts me in the first 7% historically. That early adoption + 30+ years of experience = credibility beyond the certification itself.
Bottom line: Not an “exclusive club” like a fellowship, but a meaningful professional credential held by <1% of IT professionals.
I am aware: The real value is demonstrated EA capability, not just the certificate.
