WIN Skin

Windows 8.1 UI (Photo credit: Javier Domínguez Ferreiro)

The other day I stumbled upon this question about Windows 8.1

“… With Windows 8.1 will I have a choice to keep the clean look of 8.0, and not have the start icon? Thanks for your time…”

Just plain weird and somewhat crazy? Or perhaps an opportunity for Microsoft to solve this annoying and seemingly perpetual issue from a different angle?

Since the beginning of it, Android OS provides the mechanism to change its UI, more or less completely. And indeed there are many, and few are very popular, third party developers which are making these so-called “launchers” that provide different Android front ends.

Why would Microsoft not do the same for its flagship touch-enabled OS (aka WIN RT)?

Of course, this new WIN RT mechanism will make it possible for third parties to develop alternative UI, using WIN-JS  (HTML5, CSS and JavaScript) extensions.

I propose the name WIN-Skin :)
